PRMA Performance Evaluation Based on Speech Clipping
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper introduces new concepts in the performance evaluation of mobile telecommunications systems that use the PRMA protocol. The performance target commonly accepted, the probability of a packet being dropped, is revised, and the Front End Clipping (FEC) probability is used instead. The variable delay is redefined excluding the clip time (in fact a different degradation). An analytical method to calculate both, FEC probability and variable delay is proposed, and GSM like carriers are suggested as an application of the ideas presented.

PRMA Performance Evaluation Based on Queueing Theory
The Packet Reservation Multiple Access (PRMA) protocol has been proposed as a candidate for the third generation of mobile radio systems to obtain a statistical multiplexing gain from the bursty character of speech, probably the main service to be provided by a mobile network. The PRMA is derived from the slotted Aloha protocol, and being a reservation protocol makes it suitable to cope with th...
متن کاملEvaluation of the PRMA Protocol Limiting the Front End Clipping Probability on GSM Carriers
In this work some modifications to the evaluation of PRMA protocols are presented. First, a more realistic voice model which takes in account the hangover of the speech detector is used, based on ITU-T P-84 recommendation. Second, the Front End Clipping (FEC) is calculated and taken as a limiting parameter instead of the dropping probability. Unlike this last, the FEC is a standard parameter to...
متن کاملEvaluation of clipping-noise suppression of stationary-noisy speech based on spectral compensation
Development of communication systems allows people to easily record and distribute their speech. The clipping-noise, however, degrades the sound quality in the speech recording when gain level of input signals is excessive in the maximum range of an amplitude. In this case, it is necessary to suppress the clippingnoise in the observed speech for improving its sound quality. Although a linear pr...
متن کاملPerformance of PRMA: A Packet Voice Protocol for Cellular Systems
Future microcellular systems will require distributed network control. A packet-switched network is particularly suitable for this requirement. Moreover, packet switching naturally accommodates speech activity detection to improve Vation-ALOHA protocol for packet speech transmission from wireless terminals to a base station. Because PRMA is a statistical multiplexer, the channel becomes congest...
